Lady Falcons drop conference opener 2-0 to St. Mary’s The University of Texas of the Permian Basin Lady Falcons came out strong in the first half of their season opener against St. Mary’s. However, the second half was all St. Mary’s as the Rattlers scores two goals to win 2-0.
UTPB is now 1-3-2 (0-1) on the season.
In the first half the Lady Falcons shocked St. Mary’s, out shooting the Rattlers 10-5.
St. Mary’s came out firing in the second half and at the 51:52 mark Christian Mercedes split two defenders and booted a 20 yarder just over the keepers reach to put the Rattlers up 1-0.
Later in the half, St. Mary’s Carolina Hernandez broke away and sent a threw ball down field to Lauren Scally who touched it in to put the Lady Rattlers up 2-0.
UTPB keeper Stephanie Ward had four saves, SMU’s Carisa Trousdale had two saves in the first half and Jamie Talley had three in the second.
The Lady Falcons had six corner kicks and three fouls.St. Mary’s had four corners and 10 fouls.
Next up for the Lady Falcons is home match against West Texas A&M on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4 pm at the UTPB Soccer Fields located behind the duck pond. -end- |
