UTPB offers elective overviewOdessa American In response to public interest in courses for the energy industry, a new elective is being offered this fall for students enrolled either in the University of Texas of the Permian Basin's bachelor's or master's degree program in business administration, the university announced Monday.
This course would also benefit those interested in working for energy companies or starting up businesses in this sector.
Jack Ladd, dean of the UTPB School of Business, said the university is ideally situated "in the vortex" of the energy industry; therefore, classes need to offer students skills and a body of knowledge that some company in this industry would be willing to pay for. Energy Management 4389/6389, a three-hour survey course, will explore all aspects of the energy industry including history, legal and financial considerations, oil and gas accounting, managing human resource issues, energy marketing, and innovative alternative solutions such as wind, solar, geothermal and nuclear forms of energy. It'll be offered from 8:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Aug. 26. Faculty from the UTPB School of Business, its Center for Energy and Economic Diversification and its College of Arts and Sciences will provide instruction for many of the classes. In addition, Ladd said, outside experts in various energy-related organizations will lecture. For information, call 552-2173. |
