Singers wanted for handel performanceContact: Dan Keast, UTPB Music Program, 552-4292
The University of Texas of the Permian Basin and Midland-Odessa’s Allegro Chorale and Orchestra, Inc. have teamed up to present “The Messiah Project,” a full performance of Handel’s “Messiah.” The performance is scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at CrossRoads Fellowship Church, 6901 E. Sate Hwy. 191 in Odessa. Professional orchestra members will be part of the project, but UTPB Music Program Director Dan Keast said area singers are needed.
Evening rehearsals will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, through Thursday, Aug. 7, in UTPB’s Mesa Building, Room 4250. Morning and afternoon rehearsals will be held from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at CrossRoads Fellowship Church. Singers are expected to attend every rehearsal. UTPB will award 40 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for participation. This is a convenient and inexpensive way for public school teachers to meet part or all of their continuing education requirements. There is a fee for participation: $300 per singer (fee covers cost of music, orchestra, conductor and performance venue). Keast said some scholarship funds are available. The Allegro Chorale is composed of singers form across the Permian Basin. They specialize in multi-cultural music in languages as diverse as German, Afrikaans, Swahili, Spanish and English. Their most recent concert featured music from India. For more information, call 638-2781. |
