Modisett received this award for his continued efforts to increase public understanding of the importance of small business contributions to the economy and for his voluntary community service aimed at enhancing small business opportunity and growth. He has helped improve the understanding of the role of small businesses in the U.S. economy through his contribution of news and feature stories, editorials, columns and commentary that highlight and analyze small business issues.

“Bill feels that the sharing of a particular business success, through involvement of the UTPB SBDC, sparks reader interest and can also serve as ideas for other potential business owners to develop their own business interests through the UTPB SBDC process,” Tommy Baker, director of UTPB SBDC said. “Bill Modisett and his writings reflect the importance of economic diversification throughout the region by means of small business development, growth and diversification and focusing on regional resources.”

This Winters, Texas, raised journalist has spent almost 40 years writing and editing for newspapers and magazines primarily in the West Texas cities of Odessa, Midland, San Angelo and Monahans. Modisett received this honor during the Presidentially proclaimed National Small Business Week.

“Every year since 1963, the President has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the strength and economic well-being of America,” Steven Preston, administrator of the Small Business Administration said. “Each year, the U.S. Small Business Administration recognizes the special impact made by outstanding small business owners, and by champions of America’s entrepreneurs.”

Modisett’s significant contributions as an outstanding small business communicator and his dedicated support of small business have earned him this prestigious award. Modisett was nominated by the UTPB SBDC.
