Transfer Time! Print E-mail
Many college students home for the summer are reviewing their choices for the fall semester. There are a lot of reasons students choose to transfer colleges. Some plan from the start to save money by starting at a community college and finishing at a four-year college. Others are simply not happy with their choice and want to explore other options.

Whatever the reason, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin is an excellent choice for transfer students.

“Transfer students are an integral segment of the total student body at UTPB,” said Admissions Director Trey Wetendorf. “They bring a diversity of educational and social experiences that strengthen the college experience for all students.”
UTPB provides bachelor’s and master’s degrees, leadership training and research focusing on West Texas. As reported in Newsweek magazine and U.S. News & World Report, UTPB is developing a reputation as a university focused on students and academic growth.

Academic Growth

UTPB has an 18/1 student/faculty ratio, and 90 percent of UTPB’s tenure track faculty hold doctorates in their teaching fields.

The UTPB business school is ranked in the top third of U.S. business schools, and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International has bestowed accreditation – making UTPB one of the best business schools in the world.

School of Education programs have received national recognition and students have a 99 percent pass rate for State Board of Education Certification tests. The social work program has been accepted into candidacy for accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

“We also offer degrees and certifications in some of the fastest growing fields such as criminal justice, computer science, information systems and visual communication,” Wetendorf added.

Student Life

UT Permian Basin is a dynamic, growing campus. For the sixth year, the university posted gains in enrollment growth. With about 3,500 students and sunny skies for most of the year, UTPB is the perfect place to study on the courtyard lawn or take in a Falcon soccer match.

Plans are currently underway to build a 115,000 square-foot performing arts center, a science & technology complex that will house state-of-the-art computer and science labs, and a $10 million student union center. The university stages several theatrical productions and student art shows every year.  Student Life is active with clubs, organizations and events, and the Student Program Board presents fun events that are free to students. Past events have included comedians, concerts and hypnotist shows. Intramural sports are also a big part of student life at UT Permian Basin.

UTPB is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division-II level. Sports include men’s and women’s soccer, cross country, swimming, basketball and track, as well as men’s baseball, women’s softball and volleyball. The athletic program also supports cheerleading and a dance team.

Priced Right

UT Permian Basin is one of the most affordable public universities in Texas. And because UT Permian Basin is part of the prestigious University of Texas System, students receive the best possible education. The average cost for an undergraduate student to attend UTPB full time (12 hours) is about $1,800. The average cost for an out-of-state undergraduate student to attend UTPB full time (12 hours) is about $5,000.

Financial assistance is also available to a majority of students. Each year, UTPB gives out approximately $15 million to students in scholarships and financial aid.

UTPB also has Transfer Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 per semester for one year. The scholarship is competitive and requires the student to transfer a minimum of 30 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
