Chihuahua students get taste of West Texas through exchange program ODESSA -- Along with immersing themselves in English, students from the University of Chihuahua are also getting a dose of West Texas culture.
The 25 students, one of whom is from Caracas, Venezuela, are part of an exchange program with the Chihuahua school where students from there come to University of Texas of the Permian Basin and a batch of UTPB students spend a month in Mexico. |

UTPB social work program gets full accreditation The University of Texas of the Permian Basin has received initial accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. “This is very exciting news for us because social work programs must be fully accredited for graduates to be eligible to be licensed,” explained UTPB professor and program coordinator Kay Ketzenberger. UTPB has been working toward full accreditation for the last four years, and the university began accepting students into the bachelor of social work program two years ago. Seventeen students have graduated in that time, and Ketzenberger said the accreditation is fully retroactive. |

UTPB faculty, officials remember Lady Bird Former first lady played a role as UT regent in forming the school. Twenty-four years ago, Lanita Akins got to meet one of her heroes -- Lady Bird Johnson. The occasion was Johnson's 70th birthday party, held at the Austin home of her press secretary Liz Carpenter. Akins said her friends thought it would be fun to "watch me pass out from excitement" and be speechless for once in her life. |
