UT Permian Basin and Midland College reported record summer enrollment, officials said.
Midland College also has set a record with 2,497 enrollments, compared to 2,248 last year -- an upswing of 249 students, or 11 percent, Dean of Enrollment Management Bob Haines said.

Lectures go localJBS Leadership Institute calls on Melton, Perryman and Perry for series Odessa American UT Permian Basin's JBS Public Leadership Institute Distinguished Lecture Series will have familiar faces front and center in the latest installment of the popular event. Instead of focusing on national or international issues as in the past, they'll focus on local issues with local speakers.
"These are the ones we live with on a daily basis. They impact our lives," former Odessa mayor Lorraine Perryman said. She also said these issues are ones that local government can initiate immediately.

Helping minds succeedECISD, UTPB develop a relationship to work on college readiness Odessa American A couple of educational leaders in Odessa are hoping unity will help prepare Odessa students for college readiness. ECISD superintendent Hector Mendez and David Watts, president of UTPB, are preparing the groundwork for that unity.
Mendez hopes to partner with higher education institutions in Odessa to develop new initiatives for college readiness at ECISD.
